Fulfilling The Great Commission Through Action And Fellowship

A Ministry-Focused Church

For many years, Asbury UMC was the epicenter of the Black community with services that ran the full spectrum of what might be needed for persons in need. While there are many other agencies and organizations fulfilling these roles in modern society, we are still committed to being help and hope to those in need whenever we can. Asbury was one of the founding congregations of what is today the Annapolis Lighthouse Homeless Prevention Support Center. We continue in ministry with The Lighthouse by providing meals and other items as needed.

Addressing Homelessnes

We also serve our neighbors experiencing homelessness by supporting the Winter Relief Emergency Shelter program of the Arundel House of Hope. Asbury has been a host site for years and we look forward to providing our guests with as much comfort as we can, while making sure they are well-fed and nurtured while in our care.

Feeding Our Neighbors

In addition to partnering with the Lighthouse and Arundel House of Hope, we are a city and county Food Pantry site. Each week we distribute food three days of the week. On Saturdays, our church provides a hot meal, prepared in our own kitchen, and serves roughly sixty families per week. In addition to our members other organizations, families, and friends, sign up to prepare meals for our needy neighbors (and anyone else who might drop by).

United Women In Faith (UWF)

Our church has a vibrant and active chapter of United Women In Faith, formerly known as United Methodist Women (UMW). United Women in Faith is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice. Members raise up to $20 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world. In addition to participation in this global work the Asbury local unit was on the ground early in the pandemic, raising thousands of dollars to purchase Chromebooks and accessory equipment for financially strapped households.

United Methodist Men (UMM)

The United Methodist Men (UMM) are charged with the primary oversight for the coordination and resourcing of men’s ministry with The United Methodist Church. In 2020 the Winter Relief Emergency Shelter program couldn’t happen because of the pandemic. Thousands of dollars in emergency relief was awarded the Arundel House of Hope for housing in hotels. However, there are always persons who will not qualify for such housing. Our local unit of UMM provided high quality sleeping bags, socks, and other warming clothing for those who were still sleeping outdoors during the cold winter months.
